The Weekly Enlightenment

For the last 6 years, the left has been screaming about Afghanistan being the "right" war. Now Obama risks losing their support if he sends in more troops. Why? If that is the right fight, shouldn't they be championing it? Apparently not. The only conclusion is that they do not like to see military power used for American interests.

Health reform opponents always acknowledge problems with the current system, but do supporters ever acknowledge benefits? Never! I never hear Obama saying how our system provides for 250 million+ people. Nor do we hear about the great technology and innovative drugs coming out of the U.S. Everything is a crisis that must be solved before anyone can read the proposals.

MUST READ
* One more reason to want to reduce the size and power of government. The Democrats intimidation tactics are in full force.
* The White House is actively pushing for artists to promote partisan political objectives. Just another reason to promote less government.
* I don't like giving too much weight to the opinion of generals just because there are usually a wide range of views about what to do and how to do it. Plus the president is commander-in-chief. However, Obama specifically stated he was going to listen to the generals more than Bush did, but now he appears to be waffling on it.
* Top Obama advisor says no to selling health insurance across state lines. Something that everyone knows would increase competition, which is supposedly one of the administration's top goals.

Tort Reform
* Will Missouri's successful junk lawsuit reform work applied nationally? I don't know, but I do know this is exactly the reason why federalism is so important. Different states can take different approaches. A state in trouble can learn things from another state and so on. If people don't like one state's policies, they can more easily throw out their government or simply move out of the state.

What Radicalism
* Notice any similarities?
* The administration continues to use scare tactics. This time bringing out Michelle Obama.
* Americans are like unruly teenagers? You decide. It wouldn't surprise me, since I think nearly everyone in Washington thinks the American people need someone to make every decision for them.
* A lot more about ACORN. Now we have a coverup of embezzlement by the founder's brother. More hope and change.
* I've mentioned it before, but environmentalists main target seems to be humans. This time letting much California farmland die to protect the delta smelt.

The Weekly Enlightenment

Another great week. I have so much information for this week so I will try to limit it to a reasonable amount.

There was a large march on Capitol Hill protesting Obama's version of health care reform. President Obama and his press secretary expressed shock when hearing about it, as if they didn't know it was going to happen. Obama would most certainly know in case there was any kind of security threat to him personally. Of course the media covered it just as they always do (calling protestors teabaggers, unpatriotic, mobsters, etc.), but this time additionally pulling out the race card. One can always be sure of the race card being pulled when Democrats are losing the argument on substance. Lest any of you think perhaps it was an isolated bunch, here is a sampling pulled from Rush Limbaugh's show:

CAMPBELL BROWN: (music) ...vicious, racist imagery attacking our first African-American president.
LAWRENCE O'DONNELL: (newsroom noise) Gentleman Joe Wilson has done much to make the racist history of South Carolina jump back into our present consciousness.
CANDY CROWLEY: (b-roll) Critics think this is about resistance to a black man as president.
JAMES CARVILLE: People are upset with President Obama because of the color of his skin. Who cannot believe that?
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Could there be a refusal to accept the legitimacy of Barack Obama as president because of his race?
WOLF BLITZER: A small but disturbing minority within the tea party movement is also blatantly anti-black.
JOHN RIDLEY: When you talk about racial image, this is not just standard debate.
ELAINE QUIJANO: (b-roll) A small but passionate minority is also voicing what some see as racist rhetoric.
JOHN AVLON: Hitler. Communism. Racism. All this ugliness is bubbling up.
ANDERSON COOPER: There is an undercurrent of racism in some of the criticism of the president.
JUAN WILLIAMS: An attack on somebody because you really don't like the fact that they are president or because of their race.
ROSS DOUTHAT: Clearly Barack Obama's race plays some role in the kind of anxieties that are roiling the political right.
CLARENCE PAGE: (outdoor noise) People are not just mad at Obama. They are mad at Jesse Jackson. They are mad at Reverend Wright. They are mad at Al Sharpton. They are mad at people who have nothing to do with Obama except they all happen to be black.

All predictable, all smears. Even the Joe Wilson vote on the Confederate flag is misunderstood. Liberals see the Confederate flag as a flag of racism (though the US flag oversaw more racism than the Confederate one). They will never understand the Confederate flag and the South's affection for it has to do with Southern pride. Amazingly these liberals ignore the Democratic Party's own racist past.

Other big news was more ACORN videos being released, one with a woman saying how she killed her husband and another actually offering to help procure prostitutes from Central America. Of course the ACORN top brass is expressing shock at this and trying to explain it was just low level employees doing the acts. Which makes me wonder...how do such low level employees have such an intricate knowledge of how to avoid taxes? And the knowledge about gaming the system? I'm pretty confident such things are rampant, not isolated incidents. Thankfully, this has led both houses of Congress to pass resolutions withdrawing federal funding for ACORN.

The other big news is Obama canceling the missile defense shield in Poland and the Czech Republic. The bottom line other countries will see is that America does not keep its promises.

MUST READ/SEE
* ACORN caught again.
* The left is really the least tolerant of all.
* An offer to hire the ACORN ladies. Everyone is a capitalist in their own life.
* Video of ACORN in San Diego.
* Another ACORN video in San Bernadino, CA. This is the one talking about killing her husband.
* How to tell if you are a racist.

Silly Liberals
* Interesting to compare the scene after Obama's inauguration with the scene after the recent protest. I thought liberals were all for going green.
* Dissent is not so patriotic after all. I have given serious thought to donating to Wilson's campaign.
* Even Jimmy Carter got in on calling protestors racist.

What Media Bias?
* Well, well, it looks like Palin was right after all.
* Journalists are complaining about gotcha journalism done by the ACORN exposers...unfortunately the news networks have a pretty good history of doing that themselves. (Not that it all is necessarily bad, but when liberals can't complain about substance they complain about process.)

Bad Science
* Wind power isn't so powerful after all.
* Green energy is largely a myth, unless you're talking nuclear.
* Two stories regarding evolution here and here. As Ann Coulter points out, every time there is new evidence the theory of evolution changes. But don't dare question evolution!

Our Justice System At Work
* This is a local story for me, judge overturns woman's OWI (DWI in MN) conviction based on not enough time before submitting to the breath test. Notice what is missing? She still blew over the limit so there is no doubt she was illegally operating a vehicle. This is a perversion of justice.

Health Care Reform
* 45% of doctors would consider quitting if the overhaul passes. Not surprising if one has even the basic knowledge of economics and Medicare. Doctors are already getting shafted on Medicare payments. It will also result in fewer people deciding to become doctors in the first place. Alas, but then that will be a new problem for our government to "solve".
* I don't like posting stuff like this, but since liberals are claiming it is compassionate to pass government health care, shouldn't we examine who is really more compassionate?

The Weekly Enlightenment

Still a lot going on in the health care front this week. The big news was Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress. As with all Obama's speeches, it is couched in terms of what we must do, but it is based off strictly what Democrats want. The media ignores what Republicans are pushing, and presto, Republicans have no plans and Obama really cares about you. There was a curious admission from Obama though. During the speech, he said "30 million citizens". Is this a tacit admission that there are possibly 17 million illegals? I thought the number was 47 million, the figure Obama has used in all his other speeches. During the speech, Representative Joe Wilson (not to be confused with Democrat liar Joe Wilson claiming Iraq wasn't trying to buy uranium from Niger) shouted at Obama that he was lying. Which is undoubtedly true. In usual fashion, the feckless Republican leadership demanded Wilson apologize. So Wilson did. Now Democrats are saying they will admonish him unless he apologizes on the House floor. He should not. They were no calls to my knowledge of Democrats making their members apologize for booing Bush during his addresses. It's time for Republicans to quit being wussies and realize current Democrats really are radical and are bent on harming the country as we know it.

A couple other thoughts on my mind:
* Why should the rich pay more in any system? Isn't that discrimination? If everyone had to pay taxes we'd see change a lot easier.
* A funny comment I heard, pretty soon Obama will be blaming his low poll numbers on Bush, saying he inherited those too.
* Why is the media not lionizing our general in Afghanistan for calling for more troops like they did General Shinseki under Bush? They said Shinseki was speaking truth to power. Why the double standard?

MUST READ
* Exposing ACORN for helping out a pimp and prostitute, even with the importation of underage Central American girls. This has happened in both Baltimore and DC (see this), so I don't buy that it is a couple bad employees. ACORN is morally bankrupt.
* Why do Americans spend more on health care?
* Remember, Obama was once a lawyer for ACORN. A good article exposing how ACORN steals democracy.
* After all the scandals surrounding ACORN, why would you want them having to do anything with the census? If this was something done in the previous administration, I still condemn it. But what are the chances of the affiliation being ended had ACORN not been exposed?
* We are betraying the dead.

Liberal Lies on Health Care
* Taking on the lies from the left regarding how the House bill would not allow illegals to be covered or abortions. It also points out some ridiculous things people have to pay for in their health insurance, like breast implants, drug rehab, and marriage counseling.
* How to make an Obama speech (especially on health care).

Silly Liberals
* This is ridiculous. Notice how Gaddafi is a temporary member of the Security Council. Why would you help give legitimacy to such a farce as the UN?
* Why was there a huge rush to push the health care resolution through Congress when it wouldn't go into effect until 2013? Obama also promises to get savings by cutting waste, fraud, and abuse from Medicare. Why not just pass that part of it right now?
* Obama's environmental czar was a true radical. And according to a close aide to Obama, Valerie Jarrett, they've had their eye on Van Jones for a while. The only conclusion is that Obama actually agrees with much of what Van Jones has done and said.

What Media Bias?
* The media was itching to write a comeback story for Obama. Perino wrote the piece before Obama's speech and was right on in how it was covered.
* Bias in deciding to publish photos of a dying Marine. Compared to not putting out the Mohammed cartoons.

The Weekly Enlightenment

This week seemed to me to be the most boring in a long time as far as news is concerned. So I don't have a whole lot to talk about nor do I have that many articles. I'm going to try to start posting things more often so you get news and commentary faster and I don't forget as much.

Someone finally counted the number of times Obama has spoken on health care, whether it be townhalls, television speeches, speeches at public events, etc. Anyone want to guess? 111. He hasn't even been in office a year.

With all the talk of spending, printing money, we really could be at risk for not only inflation, but hyperinflation. I sent out an article a while back about Argentina with the warning that it could happen here. But why is inflation so bad? Simply because it benefits debtors at the expense of creditors. If I loan you $100, that $100 buys a certain amount of goods. When prices rise due to inflation, that $100 buys considerably less than it used to. In terms of the amount of goods that money will purchase, with inflation now the amount you owe is less than what it used to be, while I am getting back considerably less than the value I loaned out.

MUST READ
* What we can learn from Soviet medicine.
* I'm starting to wish Cheney would have run in 2008. He gets the point across effectively.
* It is important to look beyond the initial effects of government programs. Case in point Cash for Clunkers.
* Continuing government lies about the cost of their programs. Are they ever right?

Obama, the Radical
* Obama continues to surround himself with radicals. In this case Van Jones. Thankfully Jones has resigned, but isn't the saying you can tell a lot about someone by the company they keep?
* And yet another radical, John Holdren.
* Rove is right. Obama is on the verge of losing trust.

Silly Liberals
* Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is already behind in the polls for reelection. Now he has apparently decided to take on the newspaper in his home state.
* Shouldn't lawmakers be more concerned about the safety of their citizens? Apparently not.
* Credit the Times for reporting it, but does anyone put two and two together? The teenage unemployment rate is over 25%. Remember last summer when the minimum wage went up? Couple that with a recession and it's no wonder they get hurt the hardest. The minimum wage doesn't really help when more of them don't have a job.

Limiting Liberty
* Proposal to allow the Obama administration to control the Internet in an emergency.
